I've heard a lot of good things about the last four tracks, but honestly I cannot even hardly get to them but for my addiction to the first five songs. I put the album on rotation though and I could not believe it when what initially seemed like the very cheesy Fortress The Way You Used To Do - Queens Of The Stone Age - Villains (CD got stuck in my head.

It hasn't left yet. It's haunting, seriously, it is a beautiful track. Don't be so quick to skip this one. I don't care what the detractors say, this is one of my favorites if not my definite favorite so far. Feet Don't Fail Me Now then got stuck in my ear canal with it's catchy grooves and then Domesticated Animals with the call back.

I got sucked in, almost without meaning to. I mean, I already knew I love them, but Villains is so good, The Way You Used To Do - Queens Of The Stone Age - Villains (CD.

Head Like a Haunted House has that great psycho-billy vibe and the last four tracks are catchy as hell too. The Evil Has Landed I thought was a solid tune first time I heard it but I haven't been hypnotized by it so far, because, as mentioned I've been lost in having to listen to the first five songs over and over. In short ha! This album was named the album of the year by Classic Rock Magazine and I can certainly understand why.

I love every track on this album. QOTSA does quirky rock that somewhat defies description. Bottom line, this is a very good album.

Anyone out there who thinks there is no quality rock n roll still being made out there should pick this up. Usually QOTS releases jumps into my brain on the first listen. For instance, I only got 2 songs into Like Clockwork before I knew that magical album would be on repeat for the following dozen weeks.

Villains took me 5 listens. At first I thought they'd finally jumped the shark, but between the thoughtful reviews and a nagging sense that I was missing something, I listened again and caught more. By the 3rd listen I was humming the earwormier works as I walked around. By the 5th listen every song on Villains was deep in my brain and I gladly hit the album purchase button. Like everything they do, it's not the same as anything they've done. But, the winning formula is there: Hot hook, nuanced instrumentals, and lyrics on the edge of nonsense and genius.

A worth addition to my collection that I had to earn a little bit. Glad I did. I love this album so much I can only manage to review it in bullet point format. Pure genius. Their best work since Era Vulgaris. Complex and layered yet sharp and clear.
