This disc has greater clarity and crispness, with the volume being turned up, but not so much that it hurts.

In a side-by-side comparison, it makes the original sound like somebody put a blanket over the speaker. As I've not read any comments that give the U2 remasters a thumbs down, I will look to purchase the two-disc Achtung Baby, and if the remastered War is any indication of what I'm in store for in the sound department, I have no doubt that I will enjoy that one immensely. The sound on this album is clear and crisp. The songs are playing better on the car stereo than they ever have.

If I hadn't had a flood in the house, loosing so many cds to warping, I would never have known about this restored version.

It sounds amazing and is a joy to listen to. If you are a fan and don't have the remastered album, I recommend you give it a try. Sturdy g. Quality could be better. There are no pops or crackles, but the sound isn't very full. I expected more out of this one. The music itself of course is awesome but we already knew that. This is a great expanded edition of a great early U2 album that fans of the band will love as well as rock and roll fans. The material has been remastered and sounds a lot better than the original release.

Loudness wars, look up the dynamic range, there is none. Just loud, compressed with no nuances and drums are pushed into the background whenever the bass or the Edge's guitar comes in.

Ruins a classic album. Hunt down the original cd pressing. I'll admit that the first couple times I heard "War" the only songs I liked were the first four. After youve listened to it for a while, though, the songs definitely grow on you.

I think part of this was because Bono's voice, even though it's pretty incredible most of the time, becomes a little questionable in certain songs see "Drowning Man" for an example. However, if you listen to the songs enough then you begin to understand that it actually tends to work with the lyrics. The lyrics are about the troubles of war, and Bono sings, especially in the song I mentioned, like someone who's wailing or crying - it definitely works with the material given.

Most people only know the two hits off this album "Sunday Bloody Sunday" and "New Year's Day"and while those are classic songs the rest are just as good. The lyrics are especially interesting, memorable and deep - "Sunday Bloody Sunday" being the best example, I'd argue.

Musically no other band sounds like U2, and considering this came out in the 80's one can see how influential this album was. Bono's voice might not be for everyone on some of the songs, but those with an open mind will be able to look past that. All in all I'd say that this is another U2 classic and one that most people should really enjoy! Sample this album. Title by Artist. Sold by Amazon. Additional taxes may apply.

  7. A thin shit recording. I picked up a random War pressing in a dollar bin at a record store and grabbed this copy because the vinyl was so clean and less than $5. To my surprise this was a US first pressing. Then i put the album on and heard the thinnest vocals I've ever heard.
