And ABC were one of them. For the most part in the UK,there was really not the type of disco backlash that occurred stateside. So more over you wound up with music such as this. One thing you could count on during the first couple years of the 80's on both sides of the pond was the huge influence of Chic on the club and pop scene.
Everything about them. Their tight musicianship, sophistifunk production and very witty and self effacing lyrics. The new wave era has a rock side and a more dance side.
And the dance side really took after that a great deal. You'll here it on many albums of even this year alone by Duran Duran and Culture Club. Add to that the production of Trevor Horn, who shortly after this would become a huge in demand producer and you really do have something special. For an Poison Arrow - ABC - The Lexicon Of Love (CD that was starting to be dominated by a return of the singles act, this is very much an album statement, pieced together by very old Hollywood type cinematic orchestral interludes.
It's a very consistent one as well. The instrumentation is very much in the groove, make no mistake. But the production is creamy and rich as caramel. What's interesting too is the lyrics, which much as their obvious influence Chic take a very witty look into the materialistic, fashion crazed era they were part of. The characters dealt with are always looking for love and companionship, but always finding people who've already found it for themselves in,say a snappy dress or some other status symbol.
The most unusual songs for this album, the more swelling orchestral pop of "All Of My Heart" and "4 Ever 2 Together" seem to find some resolution there however. I'm one of those people who find the 's an undervalued decade. Yes it had it's severe problems. But I do tend to look at it from the point of view of a happy child growing up,not a struggling young adult with an insecure future. Yes perhaps a little bias there. But there was still just enough genuine optimism and creative ambition left from the 60's and 70's in that decade to make things potent to a degree, Poison Arrow - ABC - The Lexicon Of Love (CD.
This is one of those albums that's musically flexible enough to function as many different things. Others will think of it as a pop album. And one of the best examples of how it uses it's own influences. And how it effected the culture here through international success. Even if one isn't too into the 80's,I think even such people will find this a sparkling, witty and very funky Album) that will not provide quite the guilty pleasure you might think you'd be getting.
One person found this helpful. ABC's Debut was like a Night on the Town for anyone who has been there or dreamed of their first all night run around. Clever Production From Trevor Horn and arguably the best set of Songs the group would ever produce make this album the standout of the Groups career. They would knock their audience for a loop with their next release Beauty Stab and their 80's catalog is worth exploring, but to Truly appreciate the group you must first check out this release.
Get It. The CD is true to the original with the added bonus of the theme from the video Mantrap. Sound quality is great. Just wnat I wanted. Yes, the original production was brilliant for its time. Great songs, superb production, an album that arrived just slightly before its time and remains timeless. What you really want to know however, is "Should I buy this version or upgrade my standard version to it?
Not all remastered or deluxe editions are worth the price of upgrade, but this one truly shines. I love ABC. I've been a fan since Lexicon was released. I saw the band in concert in Cleveland, Ohio in late 82 or early 83 and I was one of many fans dressed in the classic gold lame suits they wore. The deluxe edition is amazing and features live versions of virtually every song from the album.
There are remixes included and the booklet alone is worth the cost of this CD. Lexicon of Love is one of the best albums in my collection and is truly an iconic classic.
I'd even break out my gold lame suit for the concert! See all reviews. Top reviews from other countries. My favourite 80's album CD and by some distance. Took a punt at this when on offer. Utterly fabulous - Martin Fry expressing his emotional pain in such a raw way and it connected with me instantly when released and still connects today, just differently I can deal with feelings of rejection much better! ABC brings back a lot of memories for me. I had this album many times over the years, first on tape and then on CD, I actually got this latest one just purchased from the USA as its getting harder to find it now.
ABC and lead singer Martin Fry were an 80's pop band and along with the likes of Spandau Ballet, Ultravox and Duran Duran brought out some great songs which are still classics and played extensively today.
Lexicon of Love contains their biggest hit Look of Love, along with a whole host of others which will rapidly grow on you if not heard before. Album) the tracks are very good though, you can buy this very confident that you won't be disappointed and you'll have a great and happy listening music for years to come for parties and anytime you chose.
It is amazing to see a review saying "two decades on and still going strong" and to realise it was written 11 years ago. Where did the time go?
So glad I did as not only is there the original LoL but rare stuff and live tracks which on the whole are amazing. A couple could have been left out if you start to be picky Alphabet Soup? Totally recommend without reservation, can't wait to see them with an orchestra backing them up. Report abuse. I would give this a 6 rating if it were available as it is one of my all time favourites of ABC.
These guys were on fire when they came up with this offering, as the sound quality is second to none. The group is tight with exceptional drumming by the great David Palmer, and Martin Fry's vocals are superb. I don't think you can find any better music than this, and the music holds up well even Poison Arrow - ABC - The Lexicon Of Love (CD all these years. What are you waiting for just order it! As a previous reviewer stated Mr A Mcgee the drop level at the beginning of Poison Arrow is alarming.
It's just a shame that the mastering of this vinyl is flawed, because it's one of the greatest album's of all time.
Good service by Amazon from letting me return it. If you can get a mint condition vinyl from the original copy then that's your best bet.
