This was Elvis' debut album, and it means so much to me to have it on vinyl. Beside the fact that its Elvis and I love it. It plays perfectly, and the sleeve was in perfect condition, not bent or anything. And it was at such a great price. Any Elvis or classic music lover should definitely have this in their collection.
I didn't think it was as great as I thought it would be as I'm not a huge Elvis fan. I ended up giving it to my mother. She grew up on his music. One person found this helpful. Bought this along with a record player as a Christmas gift for my mother.
Needless to say - she loved it! Has your baby left you? Have you ever felt so lonely you could die? Well then this cd is for you! It's time to check into the Heartbreak Hotel! Nobody had heard too much like this before. It broke down barriers and created a whole new genre. Importantly, white radio stations started to play what was, essentially black rhythm and blues on many of the tracks. Ridiculous as it sounds, this was a huge breakthrough. Many people still presumed Presley was in fact black, his soulful voice sounded so authentic. White kids were turning on to black music and not before time. This early Presley material, before he went into the army, was the essence of Elvis.

He transforms the song, utterly. As if that was what he had bending to do all along. I just wish he had rocked from the beginning. In the beginning, there was a new singer with an unusual name, Elvis Presley, who beat out the rhythm on an acoustic guitar, a nimble fingered lead guitarist, Scotty Moore, a down to earth drummer, D J Fontana and a mischievous base player Bill Black and together they made music that changed popular culture in a way that has never been changed since.
In it was all much more simple, especially on those tracks that originate from the Sun sessions recorded prior to It is on this simple foundation that a legend was built.
Opening with Blue Suede Shoes, the album starts with a power house performance that was to characterise not only most of all the albums that followed, but also Elvis's concerts.
Like the concerts the listener is taken on a musical journey, with the pace changing, fluctuating between heartfelt ballads like "I Love You Because", "Blue Moon" and the country blues rockers. The humble, white, country boy began to break down those racial barriers without the need to make any political statement. The true value of this music is that it will still be listened to in another 60 years time.
In the beginning, music was made by the talented and the talented made music that endured. The King. Not much to say, a great album. Any Elvis fan must own this. Got to be totally honest and say that the reason I purchased this cd was as something that I thought of as being collectale due to the cover obviously the way the Clash copied for London Calling.

Something in his voice conveys the depth and conviction of his religious beliefs. These songs are beautiful and inspiring and have brought me comfort and a sense of serenity. When you consider Elvis's own difficult life, you realize even though we are weak and frail human beings, we can have a rich and rewarding spiritual life.
As a line in the title song says, "And if I fall, I know you'll understand. Elvis at his best. Im Counting On You - Elvis Presley - Elvis Presley (CD due diligence for comparing and collating thus. Three years later, took a much different approach, with a bigger and more "professional" sound and yes, with a alot less "Presley", meaning that he defers to the quartets and the song itself, submerging alot of signature vocalisms, if you will.
He employs a rarified, high tremolo, just underneath true falsetto correct me if I'm wrong on all the numbers, even the fast ones, so something like Joshua Fit The Battle is also in the mold. It's a beautiful tone, but those who want to really hear the Big El belt 'em out. Maybe I spoke too fast about the heavy use new, gentle technique, as a secular title foud its' way into the October, session, Surrender. This may represent his first beat ballad and I leave it to Opera afficionados to tell us about some of the majestic Album) he nails.
Too bad some of that powerful "middle" did not emanate over to the many non-secular sides. As moving as they are. A happy medium is found on the bonus live in Swing Down, Sweet Chariot where he uses alot more chest tone. More "Elvis".
I collect the "Follow That Dream" series, which features alternate-takes of his music, some of the cuts being better [to me] than the issue cuts. It is well known and documented by now that after leaving the army Presley wanted to get back to his recording career as soon as possible whilst also pursuing a film career where he hoped to become another Marlon Brando, his screen idol.
Having just recorded the album Elvis Is Back he pursuaded RCA to let him record a full album of gospel songs, something of a favourite of his mother's. This album is the result of an all-night recording session during And it is simply brilliant. Working with little more than a gospel quartet, piano, bass and percussion, the focus is entirely on the voice of Elvis singing praises to the 'Man In The Sky'. To a non-believer, it might seem a bit hard to take but believe me if no one else!
